Sarah's Spring Capsule Wardrobe: Part 1

Spring is officially here, which means it is time to stop procrastinating and get your wardrobe organized and updated to fit your current lifestyle & needs, ladies! Many women feel the idea of a Capsule Wardrobe is a large and daunting task. But I am here to tell you, it is not!! In this new blog series "My Spring Capsule Wardrobe", I am going to help to minimize your wardrobe and maximize your efficiency in getting dressed each day. This will help all you busy mama's out there who spend lots of your already very limited time each day trying to figure out "what am I going to wear?!' Well let me put your minds at ease and walk you through how I set my Spring Capsule Wardrobe.

 Here we go.....

1. Time to purge! Go through your current spring time wardrobe and get rid of anything you have not worn in the past 6-12 months. This may seem ruthless but, it is necessary to start fresh and only have things in your closet you love and want to wear over and over again. Find a local women's shelter to donate you, or take your gently used items to a consignment shop and try to get a few bucks for the items you no longer wear. After doing this step myself I was down to a very small amount of items left in my closet, but It felt so much better to simplify. I made the new rule for myself, anything new I was going to buy and add to my wardrobe had to be something I absolutely loved and I would not just settle for something that was just ok, even if it was on sale!

2. Make a list. Write down all the staple items you need. Things that you wear on a daily basis. Jeans, short sleeve tee's, long sleeve tee's, chambray shirt, cardigan, dress etc. If you make a list and know exactly what you are shopping for you are less likely to buy items you don't need.

3. Time to Shop. Only buy what you LOVE, fits you well, and things you will wear on repeat for the next several months. Think classic, basic items that will interchange well with other items in your wardrobe. Try not to buy a lot of items that are too trendy, since they will be harder to mix and match with everything in your closet. Jewelry and accessories are fun ways to add trendy twists to your wardrobe, and usually cost less and are easier to replace after a season or two to wear. Once you finish your shopping list its time to put your wallet away and give your credit cards a rest. Your done shopping for the next few months. The idea I love about the capsule wardrobe is that you put the work in to plan, shop and organize, but then your done. Your seasonal wardrobe is complete and your daily task of getting dressed is accomplished in just minuets, without stress and you feel good about what you are wearing!

Now I am going to share with you the items I have added to my own personal Spring Capsule wardrobe. So you can have an idea of about how many items to shop for and ideas of specific items I suggest you have as a part of your capsule that will be easy-to-wear, well-rounded, and will fit your lifestyle. Obviously every person will have their own individual needs based on your occupation, and the season of life you are in. I am currently a work/stay-at-home mama of 2 little's and mostly wear casual outfits, and only wear the occasional dressy outfit for date nights, girls night and church. So, just make sure you buy items that work for your own personal style.

A Few Of My Favorite Things

I just wanted to share a few of my current favorite things with you....

1. Aztec puffer vest: This vest is warm and super cute. I love the fun pattern and the neutral colors go with pretty much everything in my closet. I think I wear this vest a few times a week! A vest is the perfect layering piece for the fall/winter/spring, especially for our Colorado climate.

2. Marc by Marc Jacobs cross body saddle bag: I have been looking for the prefect cross-body, leather, saddle bag for quite some time. This style bag is timeless and will go with everything! It is a prefect size for me to carry my wallet, phone, and essentials, without being too bulky. I love that it can dressed down with jeans, and sneakers or dressed up with a dress and heals. A good quality leather bag will last for years and is a great investment piece for our wardrobe!

3. Doterra essential oils: I LOVE using essential oils on myself and my family! They have really been a game changer for us since we started using them a few years ago. I like being able to use more natural solutions for sicknesses, everyday use, and cleaning my home! A few of my favorite oils we use almost daily are: Lemon, OnGuard, Balance, and Breath. I especially love that these oils are safe enough to use on both my kids!

4. My Favorite Book when I am needing some encouragement or need to read truth about who God is when I am going through a tough experience: I read "Calm my Anxious Heart" by Linda Dillow. I have read this book several times and learn something new every time I do. I highly recommend this book to any woman!!

5. Andalou Skin Perfecting Age Defying Beauty Balm: I use this everyday as my daytime moisturizer. If is all natural, minimal ingredients, SPF 30, and smells wonderful. I have used this product for about a year and LOVE it!! It is super moisturizing which is a must here in Colorado's very dry climate. Plus, it is lightly tinted so I can just wear this product without any other makeup and it helps my skin tone look even and gives me that fresh faced look. I get it at Whole Foods or Sprouts.

6. Redken Pillow Proof dry shampoo: A busy mom's lifesaver! Since I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, this dry shampoo helps me extend my hairstyle for a few days. It smells really good and doesn't feel like I have a ton of product in my hair. I highly recommend this brand. I buy mine at Ulta.

7. Kork-Ease Brown Booties: I found these at Nordstrom. I read the hundreds of positive reviews of this brand, and decided to give them a try. These booties are probably the most comfortable boots I have ever owned! The heel is a perfect height, they go with everything (skinnys, wide leg, leggings, dresses)  and are really well made. They were well worth the price and I would definitely buy another pair in a different color or style!!

I love sharing a few favorite items with my fellow mom's. That is how I like to find out about new items and products, from fellow mom's who share their what they like! Because lets face it, as busy mom's we don't have much time to just go out and shop around. I would love to hear what your current favorite items are, whether it's apparel, accessories, cosmetics, skin care, or hair products?!

Melissa's Favorite Things

Melissa's Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

It's that time of year for shopping and gift giving! Sharing a few of my personal favorite things. What are yours?!

1. Trader Joe's Dark Sipping Chocolate

I have officially crossed over to the dark side...when it comes to chocolate, this is. Anything dark chocolate suits me. Since I'm not a coffee drinker Trader Joe's Dark Hot Chocolate gives me a bit of a caffeine boost and makes me feel a little more sophisticated. ;-)

2. Blume Blanket Scarf

I'll be honest, I've never been a scarf person...until now! I absolutely love this super soft, cozy Blume Red Multi Plaid Blanket Scarf. I wear it all the time and even around the house to keep me warm. I pair it with my leather jacket and favorite new UGG sneakers (see #6) for a comfy everday look.

3. Beauty Counter Tint Skin Foundation

I really dislike shopping for makeup. Don't get me wrong -- I like makeup and wear it, but shopping for it? Not so much. So of course I was pretty bummed when I found out that my favorite foundation that I've worn for the past 7 years was being discontinued. I have very dry skin and find most foundations look and feel cakey. Then I discovered Beauty Counter's Tint Skin in Linen - thanks to my friend Rachel and sis in law Meredith. I love it!!! Super soft and silky. You can layer it to add more coverage. Gives your skin that natural dewey look. Plus it has hyaluranic acid serum in it, which I hear is the fountain of youth. ;-)

4. Jesus Today by Sara Young

This sweet little devotional, Jesus Today: Experience Hope Through His Presence, is one I have read and re-read many times. It's always on my nightstand and encourages my soul.

5. MaskCara Iluminator

This is a fun little makeup discovery! Soft and subtle MaskCara Liquid Illuminator brightens eyes and adds youthful gleam - and with the circles under my eyes - boy do I need it! :-)

6. UGG Jemma Sneakers

I am a pretty casual girl and these adorable and COMFORTABLE UGG Jemma Quilted Sneakers are on my feet almost everyday! I snagged them in matte black and gray - they still have a few left in gray & other colors!!  Get them before they're gone. I wear mine with cuffed skinny jeans, leather moto jacket and blanket scarf. Hubby says they're his favorite shoes EVER, so I think I scored on these. ;-)

#7. DoTerra On Guard Oil

OnGuard Protective Blend, a clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary blend is always running in my diffusor. Makes my house smell amazing while keeping the germs at bay. Love it!

And here are my favorite PEOPLE!! The most important "things" in life are in this picture. :)

So, what are your favorite things?!

~ Melissa :)

Pattern Mixing

Happy October! Cooler temperatures are coming, which means it is time to bring out your cute, cold weather clothes. A printed vest is a great fall wardrobe staple. Its not quite cold enough yet for a heavy jacket, so a puffer vest is the perfect layering piece.

We love pattern mixing! This is a fun and unexpected outfit. Pair your vest with skinny jeans, booties, and a leather bracelet. Mixing patterns of the same color (in this case grey) make this look work, and feel put together. So give pattern mixing a try, you might be surprised at what looks good when paired together!
